LaWana Mayfield together with two to three dozen new appointments was made by the governor to North Carolina Boards and Commissions. The appointees help promote equality in several areas, including housing, education, and justice. They were not happy with the inclusion on La Wana Mayfield in the board because of her Facebook post questioning whether September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were real, and a tweet calling police as "homegrown terrorists".
